Buses running on Jammu-Kathua route stayed off the road today. More than 300 passenger buses have did not ply for the last six days due to the strike of the transporters in protest against the Sarore toll plaza. As passenger busses stayed off the road, normal life is being affected. Though the administration has abolished toll for the people of Samba district and has given some concessions to others as well, the transporters are adamant on completely eliminating the toll plaza. The transporters refused to accept any relief from the administration. The transporters have given a clear message that until this demand is met, the strike will continue in this way.
Transporters who went on strike against Sarore toll plaza say it is an additional burden on them and they shall can't bear this burden and impressed that their protest shall continue till their demands are accepted. Apart from Jammu-Kathua Area Bus Union, members of the Mini Bus Union plying on Jammu-Kathua road also demonstrated near Sarore toll plaza today. The protest was led by Kuldeep Singh, the head of Jammu-Kathua Area Bus Union. Some other political organizations also supported the union on this occasion.
The administration, a few days ago, completely exempted the vehicles registered in the Samba district in view of the protesters from the transporters. At the same time, the toll for vehicles from other districts wasalso reduced by 25 to 50 percent. The administration argued that for better roads, it is necessary that some tolls should also be taken so that the roads are repaired.
